Dr. Mary F. Heckscher, who goes by Fran, is a 2008 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine. She received a bachelors degree in biology from Dickinson College in 2001. She worked as a zoo keeper in Boston and as a nurse at Metropolitan before returning to school for veterinary medicine. Fran was in a private veterinary practice that saw both general medicine and emergency patients before joining Metropolitan's Emergency Service. She enjoys the variety and challenge of emergency medicine and is particularly interested in critical care.

In her spare time, Fran, enjoys hiking with her dog, gardening, and taking care of her retired horse. She lives in the city of Philadelphia with her husband, three cats (Ted Turner, Beep, and Minnow), eccentric husky mix (Mama Dog), and fish.
